I am Stefano Fontanelli, a Software Engineer and Tech Lead based in San Francisco.
My professional career started about 20 years ago. I designed and developed software in so many different ways and languages: alone, in a small team, collaborating with multiple teams, using static programming languages like C++ and Java, using dynamic programming languages like Javascript, Python, Ruby, deploying at scale, in the cloud or on on-premises.
I worked as an Engineering Manager for a few years. Still, I switched back to the Individual Contributors track because the role I like the most is being hands-on while mentoring other software engineers.
Currently, I work at Twilio as Senior Tech Lead, and I love it!
What is The Software Engineering Files
Recently, I found myself having the same technical conversations repeatedly, in different settings: In Real Life, via messaging and chats, via Direct Messaging on Social Networks, etc.
I like technical conversations, and I don’t see anything wrong with having the same discussions via different channels. Nevertheless, it would be fantastic to write about those same topics, redirect to those resources, and discuss those topics right there, so the conversations aren’t lost but documented and enriched every time someone new joins the conversation.
The Software Engineering Files is a newsletter and a community where you and I can:
Write about what we are passionate about (software development, system design, architecture, reliability, operational maturity, on-call, etc.).
Meet people with similar backgrounds and experiences.
Learn something new about a topic.
Share our experiences and learn from each other.
Help other software engineers in their careers.
I plan to send out a new issue of The Software Engineering Files once a quarter at first and hope to start publishing once a month as soon as my schedule allows me more time to write.
